Campaign Attribution
Campaign attribution connects marketing campaigns to downstream outcomes such as leads, opportunities, pipeline and revenue. In Salesforce, that usually starts with Campaigns and Campaign Members, then depends on how campaign participation is connected to opportunity creation and closed revenue.

What campaign attribution can tell you
At its simplest, campaign attribution answers which campaigns were associated with a lead or opportunity. More advanced models try to estimate how much credit each campaign should receive when several touches contributed to the same deal.
That distinction matters because B2B journeys rarely involve a single campaign. A webinar may create the initial lead, a later content interaction may re-engage the account, and a sales conversation may ultimately create the opportunity.
The Salesforce data model matters
Reliable campaign attribution depends on consistent Campaign Member data, campaign naming and hierarchy, contact roles, opportunity relationships and source data. If those links are incomplete, an attribution model can look precise while still being built on missing touchpoints.
Campaign attribution vs behavioural attribution
Campaign attribution is strongest at measuring activities that are explicitly represented as campaigns. It can miss useful context that sits outside Campaign objects, such as repeated website research or other first-party behavioural activity. Bringing behavioural data into Salesforce can help teams understand what happened between formal campaign touches.
Do not treat attribution credit as causal proof
Attribution shows how credit is assigned under a chosen model. It does not prove that a campaign caused the outcome. Different models can produce different answers from the same journey, so the model should be chosen according to the business question rather than presented as an objective measure of causality.
