Salesforce Lead Scoring

Salesforce Lead Scoring

Salesforce lead scoring is the use of CRM and engagement data to rank or prioritise leads inside Salesforce. The score can sit directly on lead or contact records and can be used in list views, reports, routing, alerts and Salesforce Flow.

What can go into a Salesforce lead score

A scoring model can combine fit data such as industry, company size or role with behavioural signals such as website visits, content engagement, form submissions or campaign activity. The weighting should reflect the company’s own sales process rather than a universal point system.

SalesWings can add first-party behavioural data, scoring and grading into Salesforce so reps can see both the score and the activity behind it.

Rule-based and predictive approaches

Rule-based scoring uses explicit logic defined by the business, which makes it easier to explain and adjust. Predictive scoring uses historical outcome data to estimate which combinations of signals are associated with conversion. Both can be useful, but they solve different problems and require different levels of data maturity.

Use the score in the sales workflow

A score is more useful when it drives an action. In Salesforce that might mean a prioritised list view, a routing rule, a Flow, an alert or an SLA for high-priority leads. Reps should also be able to inspect the underlying activity so the score does not become a black box.

How to validate the model

Check whether higher-scoring leads actually progress or convert at a higher rate, whether sales agrees with the prioritisation, and whether old activity is being weighted appropriately. If the score is not improving sales focus, the model or the way it is used needs adjustment.

See the Salesforce lead scoring guide for implementation options and examples, or SalesWings lead scoring for Salesforce for the product workflow.
