Behavioural Data

Behavioural Data

Behavioural data is the record of actions people take across digital channels, such as website visits, content views, form submissions, email engagement and product activity. In a B2B revenue context, it is useful because it shows what a buyer or account is doing in addition to the static profile information stored in a CRM.

First-party behavioural activity can be surfaced alongside lead and account records in Salesforce.

Behavioural data becomes more useful when it is connected to CRM context

A page view on its own says very little. The same event becomes more useful when teams can see who or which account it belongs to, how recent it is, what happened before and after it, and whether similar activity has historically been associated with qualification or pipeline.

SalesWings collects first-party behavioural activity and can associate that activity with known Salesforce records when identity is available. The data can then be used for scoring, tagging, segmentation, sales alerts and account-level context.

Behavioural data vs firmographic data

Firmographic data describes characteristics such as company size, industry or geography. Behavioural data describes actions. The two answer different questions: firmographics help assess whether a prospect is a good fit, while behaviour helps indicate what they are currently interested in or how actively they are engaging.

Raw activity is not the same as intent

Behavioural data is an input. Buyer intent is an interpretation of that data in context. A pricing-page visit may be relevant, for example, but it should not automatically be treated as proof that someone is ready to buy. Recency, repetition, fit and activity from other people at the same account can all change how a signal should be interpreted.

What to collect

The best tracking plan is usually driven by downstream decisions. If an event will not support reporting, scoring, segmentation, personalization or a workflow, collecting it may add more noise than value. Event naming and categorisation should also stay consistent so the data remains usable over time.

See SalesWings Interactions for how first-party behavioural data is collected and activated, and Behavioural Analytics for the analysis layer built on top of the raw data.
